Scripture: Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit

Devotional
He is with you especially during times of pain. There were times when I was at my lowest and didn’t think God was anywhere near me. On the contrary, that is when he is nearest to us. The noise from whatever issue we are dealing with may be too loud for us to hear him.

In Psalm 34:18 David is instructing the people on how to walk a righteous path, in doing so he lets it be known that the Lord is near to the broken hearted and saves those with a deeply remorseful spirit.

Pain doesn’t push God away it brings him closer to you; he is a God of compassion amongst other things. God does not want to see us suffer or hurting and always offers an out when we are in those moments.

Has guilt tried to overtake you when you have done wrong and are deeply remorseful? Feeling defeated? God is saying here that he is there for you.

Reflection Questions

  1. Has there been a time when you were brokenhearted but felt the tugging of the Lord?
  1. How do you feel knowing God is with you during the storms of life?
  1. Reflect on a time you were experiencing physical pain or going through a painful time, can you pinpoint Gods presence during that time?

Guided Prayer

Father, thank you for being with me when I have had some of the most painful moments in my life.
